Web Work For National Program CostsNational Costs, http://www.programs.tx.nrcs.usda.gov/nationalcosts/ HistoryWhen we received the first download of Texas Cost data from ITC, we actually received the national database. We used the unexpected opportunity to develop a national cost list site to meet two ongoing NRCS state office needs:
ContentThe national cost list database is several hundred MB, and growing monthly. This site only provides selection and viewing of these cost lists, selecting by state, county, program, fiscal year, and practice. Given a FIPS code, you can go directly to that county page. Thus, you could build a direct link from the Costs section in eFOTG to the cost lists for that country. Alternatively, build a direct link from a state or county Program information page (EQIP, GRP, or CRP) to the cost list for that program for that county. The older NRIAI listing of NRCS Cost Lists is available at http://waterhome.tamu.edu/NRCSdata/Costs/ FutureThis site is intended only as a pilot and a ‘test of concept’ for a similar site to be developed at ITC linking directly into ProTracts. If implemented at ITC, it would save many hours of NRCS state staff publishing their individual state and county program information. I will be testing its usefulness among the state economists, and later state webmasters and program managers. However, this is not meant to be a long-term site at this location. NRIAI or the Texas State Office could maintain it as a service to the rest of the country. If it is to be useful, it should be directly linked into ProTracts, a couple days work by the ITC experts.
